Indulge yourself...
Reflections of Bast is a line of self-indulgent bath and body care items.
South winds jostle them,
Bumblebees come,
Hover, hesitate,
Drink, and are gone.

Butterflies pause
On their passage Cashmere;
I, softly plucking,
Present them here!

I have created this line of natural self-pampering items because too many women have forgotten the fact that there is a goddess
within each of us that should be papered, cared for, and most importantly – LOVED.
The media and advertising companies would have us believe that only certain body types or ages are true reflections of beauty.
This increases their sales by making women feel that if we buy a certain cream or go under the knife to re-create ourselves, we too
could be just as beautiful as the models that they have computer enhanced and projected for our viewing pleasure.
I think it is time that we women reclaim our status as goddesses, regardless of body type, color, or status.  Every woman is beautiful
– all we need to do is to believe in our exquisite uniqueness, to radiate our inner light, and to LOVE ourselves.
If you look back in history, not all goddesses or female deities were strikingly beautiful but all of them were written about as they
should be – words of worship adoring every part of them regardless of their shape, attire, or coloring.

Even the goddess Aphrodite was referred to as “large”:

Goddesses were revered for their unique personalities and abilities.  Women in general were treated with just as much respect once
upon a time.  We were adored for our ability to give birth and to rear children, to dance with wild abandon, for our smiles and
laughter, for our sparkling eyes, and for the knowledge passed down from mother to daughter.  Women were leaders and once we
aged we were consulted for our great wisdom.  Granny women were sought out for their knowledge of herbal cures and help in
childbirth along with their amazing intuitive abilities.  Yes, our feelings of intuition were something once respected, not scoffed at and
referred to as being a hormonal imbalance.
Goddesses were also strong and self-sufficient.  Artemis and Diana were goddesses of the hunt and Isis brought her husband, Osiris,
back to life.  Inanna descended into the land of the dead to free her love, Dumuzi.  The primitive hag goddess, Cailleach, was
associated with the solid rocks of the earth and exemplified the beauty of the crone.  Durga and Kali conquered demons and restored
the balance of the universe.
Speaking of Kali, she is a blue skinned goddess with wide staring eyes wearing a necklace of skulls with severed heads around her
waist and brandishing a sword or three pronged spear in one of her four arms while sticking out her impossibly red tongue. Upon
seeing a picture of her, your first assumption would be of something evil but you would be wrong because she is adored as a goddess
of protection and banisher of evil.  We women also should not be judged by our appearances because they can be downright
deceiving.
Young or old, tall or short, full bodied or slender, long or short hair, dark or light skin tones, name brand tags or hand me downs, we
women are all beautiful.  Take the time to recognize this fact and pamper yourself as you would the Goddess if she were your guest.
Take the time to light a few candles and draw a warm soothing bath.  Anoint yourself with scented oils, your favorite perfume, or
silky powder.  Embrace your inner goddess and RADIATE your own unique light.  But most importantly, LOVE YOURSELF!

I chose Reflections of Bast for my company name because Bast is the Egyptian cat goddess of joy, pleasure, dance, music, intuition, &
perfumery...in other words ~ of women.
"Anchises, seeing the goddess, thought: how marvelous she is, how astonishingly large, how beautiful!  And
how well-dressed!  She wore a robe so bright it flashed like fire, and spiral bracelets, and around her fair
neck necklaces so lovely they shone like the moon against her fair breasts – her breasts!  How astonishing!"
-- Greek hymn to Aphrodite
"Her thighs are large and firm as an elephant’s trunk, thick and strong as a plantain tree, vast pillars supporting her body.
Her lotus breasts are sweet with sandalwood perfume.  Her lotus breasts are sweet with the faint traces of love.
The goddess is her own temple, painted red, and vast as an elephant that rises steaming from its bath in waters flicked with foam."
-- Indian Bhubaneshvari
I am beautiful, I am indeed beautiful:
I am the spirit of the earth itself.
I am beautiful, I am indeed beautiful:
The earth’s strength is my strength.
I am beautiful, I am indeed beautiful:
The earth’s thoughts are my thoughts.
I am beautiful, I am indeed beautiful:
All that the earth is, all that is everywhere, I am.
I am beautiful, I am indeed beautiful.
